Occlusal Equilibration/Bite Adjustment
Dr. Dickinson likes to check the bite of all his patients. This is regularly done in all of our Comprehensive Oral Exams as well as for patients who exhibit symptoms of bite problems (please refer to our page on Night guards and Deprogrammers).
Occlusal equilibration involves minor reshaping of the teeth to allow them to fit together correctly when the jaw joint is seated completely in the socket. This allows the muscles to relax and can very often alleviate or even eliminate pain and sensitivity in teeth and/or the TMJ within hours to days of adjustment.
All patients who are have undergone Invisalign should have their bite checked. Invisalign is wonderful at helping patients achieve a more esthetic look, however, it can increase their risk of tooth fracure and/or jaw pain.
