Root Canal Therapy
-
Endodontics: the etiology, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases and injuries of the dental pulp (inner soft tissue of a tooth, which contains nerves).
-
If the pulp becomes damaged or unhealthy, a root canal may need to be performed on the tooth. This involves Dr. Dickinson using endodontic instruments to completely remove the nerve tissue in the tooth.
-
This process is not always easy as some teeth have nerve canals that are either calcified or hard to find (there are more than one canal in posterior teeth).
-
Dr. Dickinson does not typically complete root canal treatment in one appointment. This is a 2-3 step/appointment procedure.
-
Sometimes non-vital (dead) teeth can be found on x-rays. This is another reason x-rays are so important. Non-vital teeth may need to be root canalled.
